A Taste of Opportunities

Interhouse

Which team will hoist the coveted Interhouse Trophy?

Part of the excitement of reaching junior high stems from the Interhouse program. Perhaps nowhere else is the foreshadowing of adult personalities and burgeoning leaders more apparent. Under the guidance of the Interhouse facilitators, students develop leadership competencies and engage in a range of activities sufficient to offer each child his or her 15 minutes of fame.

Friendly competition allows students to pull together for common goals (service, scholastic, sports, and a little challenge) and learn to handle the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." As risk taking becomes more comfortable, fervor builds toward the end-of-the-year tallying of house points and the awarding of the coveted Interhouse trophy.

Student Council

Creating school spirit. A platform for students to lead.

Student Council is every student’s chance to experience the electoral process first-hand. Whether he or she chooses to run, manage, assist, or observe, a student soon realizes the process is to be taken seriously.  Candidates learn how to campaign, give speeches, and fulfill promises.

At work, the Council spearheads outreach programs and community service projects during the year with the enthusiastic support of the student body and parent community. Additionally, Student Council sponsors a multitude of social events like the junior high dances and contests that benefit all grades.

Student Service

Students offering support throughout our school community.

The Student Service program provides students with meaningful opportunities to give back to their school community.  Those with an affinity for a particular teacher or subject area may choose to volunteer as a Teacher Assistant and take part in activities such as setting up labs or helping younger students in an elementary classroom.  Others may opt to share their academic strengths to help build up a fellow student by becoming a Peer Tutor. Our biannual Open House events offer additional avenues for participation, as students help prepare classrooms and hallways to showcase their work, then serve as Student Ambassadors to welcome and engage visitors.
